Coursework Every Week?
A form of seminar. A group will be nominated. Each seminar group will be given a lecture topic and present it in any format to explain the details of relevant theories and concepts related to the topic. Discussion of questions with audience shall be cover too.

Group Assignment?
This will be a group project of 5 members where we will prepare a project proposal for procurement arrangements to a client (in a given scenario).

Reflection
Mr Wong is a passionate lecturer. His lecture style is more based on active learning. He encouraged us to ask questions and involve in discussion of the lecture topic with him. Other than the lecture notes, he always expose us to wider knowledge of being a quantity surveyor ex. FIDIC contract, RICS professional guide, Construction project management...). I can't adapt his teaching method in the beginning (too brainstorming for me), but I believe that when you get used to his teaching method, you will become smarter (:

QSB60504 Estimating

Taught by Ms. Azrina Md Yaakob.

Why Estimating?
This subject teach us the principle and calculation of estimating construction cost and components prices such as material, plant and equipment, labour, wastage, profit and overhead. As a QS, we have to know how to estimate bid price for a project, which will ultimately become part of a resulting construction contract. Other than bidding, we also prepare cost estimates for feasibility studies of projects in the early stage.

Learning Outcomes?
Calculation:
     1. Excavation Work
     2. Concrete Work
     3. Brickwork
     4. Roofing Work
     5. Glazing Work
     6. Plastering and Tiling Work
     7. Carpentry and Joinery Work
     8. Painting Work
     9. Plumbing Work
   10. Preliminaries and External Work
Theory:
     1. Introduction to the Principle of Estimating
     2. Component of Build-up Rate
     3. Introduction to the Various Method of Estimating
     4. Errors in Estimating
     5. Sub-contracting Work
     6. Project Cost Estimating

Assessment Components?
1. Coursework 10%
2. Group Assignment 40%
3. Final Examination 50%
4. E-portfolio Pass/Fail

Coursework?
A form of seminar. A group will be nominated. Each seminar group will be given a lecture topic and present it in any format to explain the details of relevant theories and concepts related to the topic. Discussion of questions with audience shall be cover too.

Group Assignment?
The students will form a group  to participate in a tender exercise including tender submission and post tender evaluation. Each group will receive a tender invitation and we are required to obtain quotations from suppliers and estimate unit rates using quotations received. After estimate all the construction cost, we have to complete the tender document and prepare for submission. In the end, we are required to attend tender interview to client (if the tender was successful) or present evaluation discussion to our own company director (if the tender was unsuccessful)
