Individual assignment 1: Sketch and Draw x 20 pieces

Group assignment: Video “Walls” x 20 minutes

I very appreciate Mr. Chai's teaching. He taught us a lot not only from the lecture notes but also many related knowledge from his working experience. What we gain from him is very useful to us. Construction Technology 2 is getting more difficult than I thought. Other than lecture classes, I should make efforts and take times to revise every topic myself in order to digest. Construction technology is always my favourite module!

Why Building Services I? We will learn measurement of building services in the following semester, so it's to build up our understanding of it.

Assignment?
Group assignment 1: Sustainable stormwater management + Case Study
Through this assignment I learnt how to identify the application system, installation,process, benefits, problems and anything relevant to sustainable stormwater management. I gained a lot of useful information of it.

This module is almost related to our every day life. The water we use and waste, communication between us, our room air purity etc. It's an exposure for me that I can know how it works as it happens in my everyday life, interesting!

QSB60204 Measurement II

Learning Outcome: Measurement of Wall element(Internal and External), Wall finishes(Internal and External), Floor finishes, Ceiling finishes, Timber floors and Stud partitions, Staircase structure, Staircase finishes and Balustrading, Precast concrete piling

Why Measurement II? Compared to Measurement 1, Measurement 2 is more related to building a house while Measurement II is concentrating on site clearance, foundation and reinforcement bar, the basic work before building a house.

Assignment?
Group assignment 1: We are given a bungalow to measure by Ms. Habizah. Being in group have the benefit of distribution of works and motivation by others. I also gained the knowledge of 5 person when we work the project together. I felt lucky because I've get to know my classmates more and then we become good friends!

I can't imagine how difficult the project is in our real work in the future as a quantity surveyor. I feel like I always didn't learn that much and I definitely need to practice more and more and gain the knowledge of not only in the field of QS but also engineering, marketing, English language etc. as much as I can. I don't hope much, if I can keep understand the real me that's what I really hope, I believe knowledge leads me to this way..

QSB60103 Site Surveying

Learning Outcome: Trigonometry, Leveling, Tape and Offset Surveying, Angle and Directions, Traverses, Theodolites, EDM, Construction Surveys, Area and Volumes.

Why Site Surveying? Quantity Surveyor should know how to verify the survey results of the site ourselves to make sure the accuracy. If I didn't learnt it, I can't even know there was a mistake in the results and it will eventually cause me troubles.

Site Surveying is difficult for me because I don't understand the meaning of the words. English standard is the biggest problem of mine. I should work hard for it! Mr. Chai helps me a lot and I want to appreciate him so much. I asked him question about my passion and the future career before. I have also learnt some working experiences' lessons from him.

LAW63704 Introduction to Law

Learning outcome: Malaysia Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law.

Why Introduction to Law? Quantity surveyor would need to consult and advise their client and reduce the risk of a tender of construction project.

I was really surprised that I learnt law. It was so cool. I have learnt how to answer a question and shows people a more well-understood but simple answer. "Be simple with quality content" is what I have comprehend. Sometimes we lost something because we are holding something more important, we seems like we received less but maybe the things is just what we need. I also learnt how to organize things more efficiently, my brain become more well-organized. I felt that I get a little bit smarter since this course started. I should do more revision on Law and brainstorming because cases are never the same and they are more complicated than what I have learn. I would not only need to practice what I have learnt but also consider other things like logistic of the cases. To let my brain be more thoughtful and well-rounded, I have a long way to go. By the way I really appreciate this lecture and Ms. Shoba, It changes my life.

Learning outcome: Concrete, metals, rubber, ceramic, paint, timber, stone, bricks and blocks, glass, plastic.

Why Building Material? Different building material have different properties and characteristic, quality and cost. I must distinguish between them to choose the best suitable building material in a project when I am a quantity surveyor.

I love this project so much because I was be able to practice my knowledge in the actual working environment.

Building materials are like our life. Table we used to do homework is made from timber, bowl we used to eat and drink is made from glass or ceramic or plastic, etc. I never thought I would need to know its properties and details,, and it become so useful and important to my life job. In overall, I like quantity surveying. I don't think I hate any lectures I have studied now but feeling strong that I will love it so much. I am getting more eager to learn than when I was in high school. I appreciate that Ms. Aishah taught us a lot because I can feel her passion which give me strength to learn more about building materials.

Learning outcome: Site and temporary work, foundation, concrete framed building, roof, wall, windows and doors and staircase.

Why construction technology? Quantity surveyor should know the construction technology of the construction project which he estimate. If I didn't know, I won't be able what I am measuring when I do Measurement I.

Group Assignment: Construction Technology of Ikea
Ikea has a significant design in every corner of the world. We are lucky to pick it as our project topic and we learn a lot from actual environment in order to practice our knowledge.

I love this project so much because I was be able to practice my knowledge in the actual working environment.

I have been more curious and curious about construction nowadays. I never notice the construction project every time I pass it by. But now, I always try to figure out what they are doing, is that the thing that I learn from Ms. Azrina? If yes, I will feel a sense of accomplishment because I learn well and didn't just memorize it and practice. Information is not knowledge. Although I found a lot of useful information about construction from internet, I can't verify the reliability. But after compare with the lecture notes and asking questions from Ms. Azrina, I have more confidence to what I have learnt from her. I like construction technology and I feel a little bit sad because the lecture ends. I hope that I didn't miss out anything and for sure I should make more effort to keep revise it until the day I become quantity surveyor. Knowledge is an investment for future.

Learning outcome: Measurement of girth, site clearance, strip foundation, pad footing, pile cap, column, beam, reinforcement bar(straight, bend, hook, link, stirrup, binder, anchorage, lapping...), mesh fabric reinforcement, floor slab, apron slab, + SMM 2

Why measurement? Measurement is so important for being a quantity surveying. We measure and estimate the cost of a project (mostly construction project), without this knowledge we can't do this job. We will continue Measurement 2 until 4 in the following semester. I am so excited about it and I will need to work very hard because I will probably forget Measurement if I didn't revise in the future.

I love this project so much because I was be able to practice my knowledge in the actual working environment. Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice.

I like measurement. At first I thought it is easy as it just need to measure and calculate. Book-keeping and mathematics is my pros when I was in high school and I definitely will be a pro in quantity surveying. But it is not that easy as I thought. Analyze, estimate and manage should be practiced too. And so, I am happy and more eager to learn it because I believe it will helps my brain get smarter and smarter. I want to be an intelligent girl. Quantity surveying is my choice and I love it.
